Chinese Checkers (Sternhalma)

Chinese Checkers is a strategy board game for 2-6 players. Players race their 10 pegs across the star-shaped board to the opposite point, hopping over other pegs to move faster and block opponents.

It was invented in Germany in 1892 as "Sternhalma" - German for "Star Halma" - because it's a star-shaped variation of the older American game Halma.

When it was brought to the US in 1928, it was marketed as "Hop Ching Checkers" to sound more exotic, which later became "Chinese Checkers."
