Flintwhistle's Folly

Flintwhistle's Folly

What To Do!? Games

Title: Flintwhistle's Folly

Tagline: A hopeless would-be pirate, a haunted lighthouse, a very leaky ship and a ghost with a grudge: a point-and-click comedy in four parts.

Rupert Flintwhistle has two pieces of eight, a dream of captaining his own ship, and absolutely no idea what he's doing.

Flintwhistle's Folly is a hand-crafted point-and-click pirate comedy in the spirit of the early-'90s adventure classics: nine verbs, a pocketful of inventory, branching conversations, and more jokes per screen than is strictly safe. Click around, pick things up, use the wrong thing on the wrong person, and talk your way out of it.

Part One: A Light in the Fog. Port Mildew is smothered in fog, courtesy of the ghost pirate Captain Bonebeard, and nobody can sail until someone relights the lighthouse. Everyone agrees it can't be done. Rupert agrees to do it anyway. Light it, and a very leaky sloop is yours.

Part Two: Bonebeard's Grudge. The ghost ship comes back out of the fog, skeletons carry off Rupert's entire crew, and a note on the mast says come to Skull Rock. Cross the Skull Sea with an empty ship, a terrified parrot and a flint whistle, sneak into a pirate lair in a very unconvincing disguise, and find out why Bonebeard hates the Flintwhistles so much.

Part Three: A Chip off the Old Star. Rupert finally cleans his whistle and finds a note from his grandfather inside. The flint is a chip off the Evening Star, and the biggest piece is in a museum on the most respectable island in the Caribbean. Get past a curator who has labelled everything, including the labels, and reach the old observatory on Starfall Hill before Bonebeard does. He's got his head back now, and a crab living in it.

Part Four: Warts and All. The Leaky Tuna comes home on the evening of the harbormaster's wedding to the sea witch, and Rupert, the only ship's captain in port, has to marry them. First: the ring (a seagull has it), something old, new, borrowed and blue, and a parrot who will not stop staring at the bride's toad.

Along the way you'll haggle with a shopkeeper who'd sell you your own boots, tickle a giant clam, teach a parrot the one word guaranteed to empty a tavern, return a jawbone to a skeleton fishmonger, bargain with a costumier who only takes payment in feathers, upset a curator with a single label, and meet a mermaid who is quite clearly a manatee.

And there isn't a single image or audio file in it. Every painted background, character, animation, song and sound effect is generated by code while you play.
